Martin Eisler & Carlo Hauner 1950s iron and rope chair
Lounge chair by Martin Eisler and Carlo Hauner for Forma, Brazil, 1950s. An extremely rare chair to find in the UK.
Bent iron frame with the original rope seating and rope tightly wrapped around the arms. The elegant curve of the seat frame makes the chair very comfortable and supportive, with arm rests that splay outwards giving it a light, playful feel.
In nice original condition. The frame is sturdy and the rope is all intact. The rope has aged in colour and has some marking/darkening in places. The original rubber feet are in place although they have worn through on the bottom.
Martin Eisler (1913-1977) studied architecture in Austria before moving to Buenos Aires in the late 30s. He started an architecture firm and organised an exhibition of his furniture. Carlo Hauner (1927-1996) studied in Milan and arrived in Brazil in 1948 working with textiles, ceramics, furniture and architecture. They met in 1953 and opened a furniture shop together called Galeria Artesanal in São Paulo and then went on to start Forma.
Approx dimensions: 71cm deep x 65.5cm wide x 72cm high.
